This also applies to cable, chain, and webbing.

Gear that is anchored includes anchors, rocks, trees, tripods, trucks, etc.

A "bight" is a simple loop in a rope that does not cross itself.

A "bend" is a knot that joins two ropes together. Bends can only be attached to the end of a rope.

"Descending devices" (e.g., ATCs, Brake Bar Racks, Figure 8s, Rescue 8s, etc) create friction as their primary purpose. The friction in descending devices is always considered when calculating forces.

The "Safety Factor" is the ratio between the gear's breaking strength and the maximum load applied to the gear (e.g., 5:1).

Copying the workspace

You can copy the image that is displayed on the workspace so it can be pasted into other software, such as email, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, etc.

Use one of these commands to copy the workspace onto the clipboard

  • On the Home toolbar, in the Clipboard group, click Workspace. Then choose Small, Medium, or Large.
  • Press the keys Ctrl+Shift+C to quickly copy a medium-sized image.
  • Press Alt+PrtSc to copy the entire vRigger window (toolbars and all).

The different image sizes

  • The Small image size is best for email. It may be large enough for some web or PowerPoint presentations.
  • The Medium image size is similar to the size you see in vRigger. This is usually best for computer presentations.
  • The Large image size is best for high-resolution printed output. This is especially true if you plan to modify the image using desktop image editing software such as Photoshop.

A copyright notice is automatically added to the copied image. You can disable the copyright notice from the General page of the Options dialog.

Pasting the image into other software

Use one of these commands to paste the image:

  • If the software you are pasting the vRigger image into has a tabbed-toolbar, click Paste in the Clipboard group on the Home toolbar. Otherwise, choose Paste in the toolbar's Edit menu.
  • Press the standard Windows keys Ctrl+V.

You can also copy and paste gear.

Clipboard troubleshooting

When working with a system that contains "curved" ropes, a rope may be inadvertently "clipped" when copying or printing. That's because vRigger can't tell where the curved rope is. You can prevent this by adding a lone slack point as shown in the following illustration. vRigger will expand the selection area to include the slack point, but since slack points are hidden, it won't be saved to the clipboard.
